Can oral contraceptives cause Candida?

- Avoid perfumes - Do not use scented toilet paper or feminine hygiene products as this may cause irritation. Also, if you are sensitive to perfume, you should not take a shower.

- Avoid rinsing - This will clear out the bacteria and cause an imbalance that will open your infection.

When do you go to see a doctor?

- If you have never been exposed to vaginal yeast before - you should make sure that you have a yeast infection. Some sexually transmitted diseases, such as herpes, can develop symptoms similar to yeast infections. Also, if you have never been infected with yeast, it is best to ask your doctor about their recommended over-the-counter products to help you clear the infection.

- If you must repeat the yeast infection [4 or more times a year] - If you are taking oral contraceptives and often have yeast infections, you may want to discuss other methods of contraception with your doctor and carefully consider your diet and lifestyle. You may also want your male partner to check for a yeast infection, especially if he has not been circumcised because he may pass it on to you.
