Since 1979, the NFL has been testing some of the players entering the NFL draft. Then in 1982, the players and the team's scouts gathered to see the player's prospects, through a lot of practice to understand the player's performance. This is the first year of the official combination. The players then accepted interviews with the team as well as a comprehensive physical, medical and psychological testing program. The first combination was held in Tampa, Florida, with 163 players. Two camps were held in other places between 1982 and 1984.
The National Invitational Battalion [NIC] in 1985 was also known as the merger of three camps, as all 28 NFL teams agreed to participate in the annual federation to be held in Arizona. After the merger of the three camps, the NIC was renamed NFL Scouting Combine.
