Vacation rental travel insurance

A family booked a rental cabin last summer, arrived safely and liked the cottage. However, on the second day of their two-week stay, my mother received a phone call saying that her father was seriously ill and was not expected to survive. The family was packed home, and sadly, her father passed away a few days later. After the funeral, the renter called the cabin owner and asked what kind of refund she could expect because they only used the 14-day booking for 2 days. The owner refused to pay any refund and stated that she relied on the rental income of the cottage to pay for her cottage and was always booked throughout the season. Under the terms of the lease agreement, she was unable to find an alternative rental party at the last minute; if that was the case, no refund would be made. Of course, the rental group does not have travel insurance, which may include a reduction in travel expenses due to illness and/or death of close relatives. The rent cost more than $4,000 for families, and they can't recover a penny.

Many people believe that travel insurance is only required for flights; it includes delays, lost baggage and the risk of airline bankruptcy; medical insurance is required abroad. Buying insurance to cover road trips to self-service tableware in the same province or country is not important or not considered at all.

Think again! Most cottage bookings are booked a few months in advance, and many things can happen after you book a change environment. The sickness of the tour group members, layoffs or calls to serve as jurors are just some of the conditions covered by the travel insurance policy. Some insurance companies also offer a "change of mind" clause that allows you to cancel and pay in full for any reason after the booking is completed. This usually pays an amount sufficient to cover any cancellation fees that the rental agency or owner may apply for.

When you book a vacation rental property, please double check the cancellation policy of the owner or agent. If you are not sure, please ask a question. In general, most private owners and rental agents will attempt to re-book the property when they cancel the property and refund your funds within the time they rebook, minus the cancellation fee.

The premiums paid for travel insurance become less important, and the more you pay, but for your peace of mind, at any cost, it's worth it.
