The favorite poem of the American people - by Hazel Felleman

This collection of poems was published in 1936. Please tell me when I describe how our country was at the time. This was in the middle of the last Great Depression, so the economic time was very bad. However, the reason why it is bought and read by many people is the same as the reason I read it many times. Tom Brokaw calls it the "greatest generation."

The book was dedicated to the New York Times publisher Adolph S. Ochs, who died in 1935. Ochs is a poetry enthusiast who started his career in news in Tennessee. Although we can now "Google" to understand most of the information, at the time broadcasts and newspapers were the main source of information for people we could afford.

In the Q&A section of the Book Review area, Fehrman worked for The Times. She received more information about poetry than any other show to her which is the public's favorite item. The era is "Google" of that era, and mail requests from all over the country are mailed. As Edward Frank Allen said in the introduction, the book was edited by the American people. His introduction is very well written, very interesting and worth reading.

In this regard, let me quote a few words from the introduction. I think what he said in 1936 is still suitable for today's society. Allen said: "Today's poetry is absolutely necessary. The world needs it to inspire its power. Poetry has almost everything that music can provide - melody, rhythm, emotion - but it has the advantage that it can be closer to the heart Satisfied with the desire for beauty, which is part of almost every normal person's make-up.

This book is well organized. Reading poetry is a personal matter, and we like individual poems of different types and even different categories. Therefore, the book is divided into 12 parts according to the theme of poetry. From love and friendship to various themes. Humor, patriotism, poetry about storytelling, etc. The first poem is Elizabeth Barrett Browning and the last poem is Robert Browning. You will find the index listed by the author, the first line and the title. The 670 page is set up very well, so that all readers can access all content. This book is a very good book for people of all ages. It has many poems by famous poets and others who are less well known. Fehrman contains poems from unknown poets. His poems are very popular, but the authorship is not known.

You will find that, as Hazel Felleman said, all poems are not necessarily her favorite, but they are included because they are the favorites of the American people. Some of my favorite ones are not in the book, but many are there.

I "Google Search" and found that it is still printed and can be used in new and most bookstores. I found the price from 25 cents to $17.00. Quite cheap bookshelf and your fun.

Turn off the TV, throw the newspaper, find a quiet corner and enjoy. I believe you will like it.
