It can be seen from the London Olympics held this year that the Modern Olympic Games has become one of the biggest special sports events on the international calendar. But from a historical perspective, how much do we know about these games?

There are now more than 200 countries participating in the Olympic Games [summer and winter competitions], which are held every two years. The summer and winter Olympics alternate every two years, but each event [summer or winter Olympics] is held every four years.

Creation of the modern Olympic Games

The first Modern Olympic Games was held in 1896, inspired by the ancient Olympic Games held in Olympia, Greece from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. The first modern game was organized by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who also founded the International Olympic Committee [IOC].
