How important is self-esteem to employee success? As managers, we all know that high self-esteem will bring a high degree of self-confidence and a high sense of self-worth. These are key features of employee success. Having said that, this is an important and introspective question: What kind of self-esteem does each of your employees have? If you don't know, I will challenge you to start observing your employees. Believe it or not, you can play an important role in improving self-esteem and change your attitude and performance in the process.
For me, the word self-esteem has always been interesting. Our self-esteem is usually not determined by ourselves, not by ourselves, but by the feedback of the people around us. We understand who we are and what our strengths and weaknesses are based on what others say to us and us. As a manager, understanding this simple fact can provide an opportunity to change and improve employee self-esteem every day. In essence, strong words and affirmations can bring change, more confident, confident and productive employees. I saw this metamorphosis happen to thousands of people in my career. Through the power of words, all this is possible!
Do you have important people [spouse, parents, siblings, teachers, coaches] in your life who always tell you that you are not good enough in some aspects of your life? Does anyone tend to focus on your weaknesses rather than your strengths? Have you been correcting your people? How did this make you feel it? What is the impact? What is the long-term impact? Does it have a negative impact on your self-esteem, self-image and self-worth? Do you think your employees have had [or are] having the same experience in their lives? As their manager, are you one of those key people?
Now let's look at it in another way. Do you have [or have] important people in your life telling you that you can do anything? Who found your best? Does someone often build you and focus on your strengths? If you have, and I want you to do this, you will know the positive impact of changing your perception of yourself and building confidence and self-esteem. This is exactly what you might have in your employees' lives. No matter what negative feedback your employees get from others in life, you can use positive, inspiring words to counteract this feedback. By doing so, you can not only build self-esteem and self-confidence, but also gain respect, admiration and loyalty. These are the qualities of excellent employees! It all depends on how you talk to and treat people in your care.
Let me share with you some of the eternal wisdom and truth in the Bible. These words will support this: "Don't let any unhealthy words come out of your mouth, but just help build others according to their needs." Let those who listen to benefit." [Ephesians 5:29]. You have the ability to change the lives of your employees. Start today and make a change!
