Home Coffee Baking - Kenneth Davis's Romance and Revival - My Book Review

Kenneth Davids has written an excellent book on home coffee roasting. It was published in 2003. A total of 235 pages with beautiful photos and charts covering the history of coffee roasting. He introduced the machine being used and the machine used today.

He introduced the basic skills of baking coffee at home. He explained the different types of air baking [called convection], conductivity [frying pan] and other methods. He even introduced the basics of oven baking.

Covers different styles of home coffee roasters and how they are the same and how they differ. He explained how to use them and how to track the type of green coffee beans used and track the time and temperature that can make the difference in the roast.

His barbecue section covers the difference in flavor between different green coffee beans from the soil, nutrition and other factors. He covers all stages of coffee bean processing. He covers the color and name of each stage of the barbecue from shallow to deep.

On page 68, there is a really handy chart that covers all the stages and details the look of the bean. It even covers the approximate bean temperature for each level and gives the generic name. This is a very handy chart.

For the first coffee roaster or premium coffee, this book will be a handy item on the shelf as a reference for home coffee roasting.
