Greyhound Handicapping - some terms explained

The gray dog's lameness has its own terms. For novices, the bet terms look like a foreign language. Here are some betting terms and their definitions to help you in the dog track.

Bet type:

Win [first place], place [second place] and display [third place] bets usually start at $2. You can only win bets when your dog first crosses the finish line. If your dog goes into the first or second, please bet. If your dog enters 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, a bet is displayed.

Quinielas [quinellas and other spelling]. This is the first and second bet placed by the two dogs in any order. The basic bet is usually $2, but some tracks have a $1 quiniela bet and pay $2 for quiniela.

Specify a winning position bet. Although not as common on the track as it is on the track, it can be found in some programs. Unlike quinielas, to hit the exacta, you must bet the first two dogs crossed the finish line in the exact order.

Trifectas. If you choose the first three dogs to cross the finish line, you win a three-game winning streak. If you play...
