Eating Disorder Awareness - February 2011 - What does the number mean?

Well, usually when you read an article about anorexia and bulimia, it is very frustrating. There are statistics on how many people have this disease, how many people have not reported, how many new cases, how many girls [and boys] are worried about their weight, and the influence of the media on the body image. ..whew!

This article will be different.

The above picture covers most of the popular figures in the field of eating disorders. Not many people are completely overwhelmed by ED. In the past 20 years, ED's information volume and awareness have been raised to almost everyone. In the Western world, you have heard of anorexia and bulimia [and their less recognized cousins, overeating and excessive exercise]

Most articles about ED focus on these numbers. Those in the image. This disease has a devastating effect.

We believe that articles focusing on recovery and optimism, movies and Facebook pages are too few.

The reality of ED is that the community with one person is the most enthusiastic fan. They saw Western civilizations as "perfect" and they tried to meet this requirement. Sometimes they are so successful that they actually commit suicide to meet the demands of perfection.

The film "No Numbers - Identity Beyond Measurement" recognizes these people in ways that are not available in other movies. It explores why so many young people find themselves struggling with eating disorders, but it goes far beyond checking the way to recovery.

Although we hope that this film will help people learn to love themselves in their own way, we are aiming at those who are suffering now. Some people do it alone, without support or treatment. Some people may think that they have successfully met the expectations of the community.

We want them to see that they don't have to live up to some random, media-driven perfect models. We want to show them the meaning of "perfect" in a million packages and find their way from the first step, a step towards self-acceptance.

February is the month of eating disorders in North America and the United Kingdom. Through this month our goal is to make the movie No Numbers - Identity Beyond Measure appear in as many places as possible.

Any organization, school, or group that wants to make a copy of a movie can filter it and retain admissions to help them help individuals in their own communities. All we ask for is telling us so that we can link to you, promote your organization, and help educate people in the community about people nearby.
