This short path is considered to be the toughest and steepest path in northwestern Georgia, and it climbed to Rocky Face, a mountain west of Dalton Georgia. The area is also the site of the Battle of the Rocky Mountains from May 8 to 10, 1864. The name of this trail pays tribute to the Allied Civil War soldiers of the 4th Kentucky Infantry. The historical symbol of the George Disney Grave is located at US41 near Mill Creek Gap, Georgia's patrol headquarters. This is one of the oldest trails in Georgia and has been used for more than 80 years to get into Rocky Face.
This trail is part of the Rocky Face Trail system, which is also the entrance to the northern part of the mountains where the Tennessee Army defended during the Civil War. The battle took place at Dug Gap and Mill Creek Gap for two days until William T. Sherman overtook Joseph E. Johnston's battle.
In 1912, the Dalton Boy Scout found this lonely grave during the year of hiking. Under the leadership of their Boy Scouts, they made a project to create a road to the site and restore a lonely tomb. The Disney Trail was exhausted even 20 years before the Appalachian Trail. This trail starts with a short, steep climb to a historic road, close to the curve of the mountains and further extends to Mill Creek Gap.
Along this gap, the trail then begins another sharp rise, this time at the top of the Rocky Face Ridge, where George Disney's lonely tomb is nearby. As the path becomes steeper and a series of transitions are made at the same time, the path is expected to become more challenging and required to be in the middle. Continue on to the top until you reach the tomb of George Disney. This is definitely the focus of the Disney Trail.
When you return, you can enter another 6 mile trail flame, but this trail has not yet fully developed. For those who are adventurous, you can take these trails to take you to the ridgetop of the Hardee Trail, which will return at Dug Gap Park. On the right side of this trail, you will be close to the Palisades Trail, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the ridges and valleys of northwest Georgia.
