As we grow, we are told that achieving our goals, especially the highest goals, will bring us happiness. Get the best results, graduate from the best university, get the best job... We start to do the task at hand. But let's review now. How many of you are really happy when doing these things? How many people feel relieved rather than happy? How many of you are satisfied with getting the best results, graduating from college and getting the best job? How long have you been satisfied?
We have achieved a goal of setting the next goal in a never-ending game to always get the best and the biggest. We want to succeed. We hope to reach the top. But let us not deceive ourselves. That has nothing to do with happiness, is it? The process of achieving these goals is often not a very pleasant goal: long hours, accumulated stress, demands for our health and time... We put a lot of energy into it so that there is nothing to enjoy .
How about reaching the summit? What is the top? There is always another top on the last one, isn't it? It is never enough.
And the world still insists on selling to us the idea that success is equal to happiness.
On the other hand, truly happy people think that their success is like them; it can't be any other way, because it means something is missing, and by definition, it feels unhappy. They don't need to participate in ongoing competitions for the best and greatest people. According to their personal definition of happiness, enjoying life, feeling content and satisfying may have become their success.
Some people attribute their success to their definition of happiness and are real. This is their choice. Happiness is a very subjective concept. The only question they need to answer is how much success they need to think they are successful enough and very happy.
So let's start by referring to things with the right name. Success is one thing. Happiness is another matter. They don't come together unnecessarily.
The next time someone tells you that in order to be happy, you need to succeed and ask yourself what you want from life. After all, you are the only one who can answer this question. If the answer is successful, then go ahead. But don't pretend to pursue happiness. Be honest with yourself.
No matter what you do, enjoy life, all of this,
