News Writing - Book Review

Today, the news is no longer as it used to be, and many American newspapers are closing. You can pick up any newspaper in the country, and one-third of the content will be exactly the same, because fewer and fewer journalists have jobs, and more information is obtained from the AP as a fill. If even a newspaper is hard to say in the future, many people have predicted that they have died out for a long time, and unfortunately, this potential possibility seems more and more real every day.

If you are concerned about the topic of news writing, if you think this is a fascinating topic, or if you are a writer or journalist, I would like to recommend a very good book to you on this subject. The name of this book is;

"News Reporting and Writing" from

 Missouri Group and School of Journalism; University of Missouri-Columbia, 1988.

In the first part of the book, it discusses the concepts and methods of accurate and fair reporting. It also explains the damage that can be caused by biased reports or journalists with hidden agendas. In fact, I am very happy to see that this series of chapters in the first part deals with ethics in the news media. I think this chapter is lacking today, of course, this book was written 20 years ago.

In the second part of the book, they discuss ways to collect writing information and explain the importance of good writing and basic skills in the next section. It also discusses sources, protected sources, search news and complex stories. The fourth, fifth, and sixth parts of the book are all about applying these techniques to create news.

In the seventh part, there are some very interesting case studies. An interesting notion is that only 11 of the 514 local stories appear in other news, and some people ask why. There are many factors, such as the impact on other areas, prosperity, the timeliness of other stories similar to the community, the novelty of the story, and the number of human conflicts. It talks a lot about the story of the middle school news cycle, which gives the story a new tendency.

This is a very interesting book and a book in my writing library. If you are planning to write an article about current events, current affairs, news or even political events, I suggest you have this book. Indeed, I hope that you can consider it.
