Fitness Innovation - Innovation Turns in Old Products

Every year, many new fitness products enter the market. A few months ago, I received an innovative fitness equipment as a gift. I like this gadget and I am amazed at the innovative features offered by this fitness tracker. Since I am always looking for innovative products and services, I am happy to try this new fitness tracker.

This device called "fitbit" is a 21st century pedometer. Old-fashioned pedometers measure the number of people walking each day. I had an old device many years ago - I used it for a while, but the novelty soon disappeared. I often have to adjust the device to make sure it registers my steps correctly. It is useful to calculate my steps every day, but the device has no other features. In addition, I have to record my steps every day and then reset the pedometer every morning.

However, my new fitbit is a completely different story. Yes, this is my step - but this is just the beginning. The device calculates the number of stairs climbed per day, the number of calories burned, the sleep mode, and so on. Fitbit wirelessly communicates with my laptop, automatically storing my daily steps, climbing stairs and other data. Also, my smartphone app shows this data and lets me enter other information like water I drink, food I eat, and more. I charge the device once a week by connecting the device to a docking device that is connected to the computer.

The small size allows me to easily put the fitbit in my pocket or on my shirt sleeve or belt. I find myself looking at the equipment many times a day, which helps motivate me to walk quickly or climb extra stairs to reach my daily goals. And, you can "competition" with your friends, who also have a healthy state, who can see who climbs the most stairs in a day and so on. This social aspect of fitness provides a new dynamic every day - and allows me to participate in the world with friends from all over the world.

I like this innovative product - using existing products [pedometers] and adding new "twist" to the design, completely changing the functionality and usability of the product. Think about the products/services in your own business. Can you "update" these products/services to create a new customer experience?
