The author participated in a one-year trip, and she found that she no longer liked the man who married her and then had a fierce divorce [which she did not elaborate on], which would make most readers drool. I am included myself! This is a book for people who want to travel and enjoy life in the current environment - whether it is an Indian monastery or a small house in Bali. The author is seeking to be completely immersed in the culture, or may evade her other life and abandon herself into every new situation. Not everyone can easily escape our responsibilities, but some people may envy this indifference to the status quo.
At the first stop of this adventure in Italy, Elizabeth Gilbert is trying to influence her life. Like many people, food is a great substitute for life. The author even admits not to visit a museum in Italy - she is too busy learning the language, for the fun I might add, and the way to eat in various cities. I think I read only 5 pounds of food. Not a typical travel log, but I like it.
The author guides you through personal psychotherapy in India, but it is easy on this subject and there is no mission. Through meditation, yoga, fasting and good friends, Elizabeth Gilbert began to heal and regain control of her life. In a sense, she learned to live with her again. However, even in her darkest moments, she can laugh at herself and bring her readers.
Bali is her last stop and meets the last sentence of the title. When you think of love and romance, a tropical island is really a place in my heart. In the beautiful scenery, she comes to love like everyone else. I really like this book and I am very envious of the ability to get up and go somewhere. My only criticism is the lack of detail in the environment around India and Bali. I would have liked to experience the people and the country more deeply. I realized that India is all about spiritual practice, but I personally hope to get more from the village. The same is true of Bali about love and more about the island and its methods. Having said that, Elizabeth Gilbert caught my attention and I really want to join her for the next excursion!
