College Student Financial Aid - Grant

The bad news about going to college is that attending colleges costs more than ever. The University Council estimates that the average cost of a four-year public university is nearly $5,000 a year, while the cost of a two-year public university is almost $2,000. And this does not include the skyrocketing costs of textbooks or other courses. The good news is that more than $105 billion in student financial assistance is available. Some of these funds are available free of charge... in the form of a university grant.

Although there are many options to consider funding your college education, this article will specifically discuss university grants.

The most common form of federal grant is Perg Grant. The amount of the award depends on your financial needs and is only available for undergraduate study. Pell Grants can be awarded to part-time students. The Pell Grant has a maximum amount of $3,000 per year and can be combined with other grants or financial assistance.

Another common federal grant is the Federal Supplementary Education Opportunity Grant or SEOG. Like Perg Grant, SEOG is awarded for economic needs and is used for undergraduate study. This grant can be combined with other school grants or financial aid, but with a ceiling of $1,000 per year.

Colleges and universities often provide students with their own grants. School grants vary in amount, but they consider many factors when publishing these types of grants, including: economic needs, grades, performance or study plans. Please contact the college you are accepting for more information.

To consider obtaining these types of university grants, you must complete a financial assistance form called FAFSA. Your university will help you with this process and you can get information online. It takes time to complete this application, so be sure to take this into account when planning your education.

Although university fees are on the rise, students have many options for financial assistance. University grants are one of the best options because they don't need to be repaid, but not everyone is eligible. Complete the FAFSA application to determine if you are eligible for the University Grant.
