Book Review - Cake Book

Tish Boyle wrote a wonderful book about cake making. She offers many recipes, which is to be expected. The difference is that she spends time talking about the nature of different cakes, ingredients and techniques. This makes this book more than just a recipe book about cakes.

The book begins with a general discussion of the ingredients. She carefully tells you the difference between flour, fat, sugar and other sweeteners, starters, nuts and dried fruits, and other flavor additives. Then the book goes into the baking equipment. I like her to point out what is necessary and what you should be ideal. Her cake-size chart is wonderful. Many times, I often want to know the capacity of a strange ball cake pan.

Before we entered the recipe, she carefully described the pan preparation for different cakes. I like her description of the difference between refueling or adding grease and flour in a frying pan. The tips she gave were to soften the butter, separate the eggs, butter butter and sugar, and fold more ingredients. Ms. Boyle then spent a lot of time decorating the cake. She will guide you to trim and divide the cake layer, filling and frosting the cake. Pipe decoration is also included. She also introduced a variety of other cakes, including marizpan, fudge, chocolate and more.

Now, finally she started using cake recipes. I think she made her recipe unique and it was a few different things. She grades the recipe by difficulty level. If this is something you can simply throw together, or if it takes longer, this will give you a good idea. She suggests using other recipes to match specific cakes or making some changes to customize the recipe. Before the recipe is listed in the book, she will tell you if you need any special equipment. The recipes are written clearly and the directions are followed by simple digital steps. She completed each recipe, how best to store the cake, and how long it stayed fresh.

As you can see, this book has a lot of ideas. I really think Tish Boyle has done a great job in educating cakes, ingredients, baking techniques and various cakes. I highly recommend adding this book to your collection.
