Aromatherapy - Understanding Lamiaceae - Part 2

In the second part of my Labiatae series, I would like to explore five other essential oils in this group.

Hyssopus officinalis

This oil needs to be used with caution because it is neurotoxic. It is best used by trained therapists. It is said that hyssop has an anti-inflammatory effect. It may help with asthma, cystitis and sore throat. It can also help alleviate the deterioration caused by scratching eczema.

It has no known contraindications, but if you don't receive aromatherapy training, there are many other oils that can be used instead.

Lavendin [Lavendula hybrida]

Lavendin has a camphor content of about 20%. This makes it ideal for assisting respiratory diseases such as bronchitis and laryngitis. It also helps with muscle and circulation problems. Lavendin can help alleviate the symptoms of insect bites and bites. Due to the high content of camphor, it should be avoided in the case of epilepsy and pregnancy.

Melissa officinalis

Melissa is hard to find because it is very expensive. Some people are confused because some companies sell products called melissa, but this is not true Melissa. It is usually a mixture of oils such as lemongrass and citronella oil.

Real Melissa is considered one of the best essential oils for treating diseases during pregnancy. It may help calm hysteria, indigestion, nausea and calm stomach upset. It has been found to have a strong antiviral effect and is well resistant to viruses such as flu, herpes, smallpox and mumps.

It has a high aldehyde content and can cause skin irritation.

Marjoram - Sweet [Oregano Calla Lily]

Sweet marjoram can help treat insomnia, especially high blood pressure. It is a good oil for a warm and comfortable heart, so it may be useful in situations of sadness or loneliness. Because it is a warm oil, it can be used for muscle spasms, rheumatic pains, strains and sprains.

Sweet marjoram may also contribute to indigestion, such as abdominal pain, flatulence, constipation and spastic indigestion.

It has anti-caries and control properties for periods of pain and deprivation. It can also be used for abdominal heat to help relieve periodic paralysis.

It should not be used during pregnancy.

Basil [Ocimum basilicum]

Basil can be used to assist most blood circulation and heart problems, including arteriosclerosis, hypotension, arrhythmia and varicose veins. It may also contribute to uterine congestion, pain and fever.

Basil is a very good oil used to assist the respiratory system. It may contribute to sinus congestion, asthma, bronchitis and flu.

Can help with digestive diseases such as vomiting, nausea, snoring, indigestion and stomach cramps.

Basil is great for helping with mental fatigue and clearing the head and nerve disorders.

Avoid using basil during pregnancy.

It is important to note that the above essential oils should be avoided during pregnancy. There are many essential oils that are safe to use, gentle, and therefore easier to use. If you have any questions, please consult a qualified aromatherapist and do not give up your medical professional advice.
