4-40 to 2-20 Conversion Course - Become a Florida Insurance Agent

This article discusses the Florida 4-40 to 2-20 conversion course. This course is designed specifically for Florida and is a way for the FL 4-40 CSR to become a FL 2-20 agent without the need for a 200-hour course.

Florida distinguishes between 2-20 general line agents and 4-40 customer service representatives. 2-20 agents can sell insurance and operate insurance agencies. 4.40 Customer Service Representatives work under the direction and control of 2-20 agents to assist agents in the sales and operations of their business.

There are two ways to become a 2-20 General Lines Agent. The first is to pass and pass the 200-hour pre-authorization course required by the state, and then successfully complete the state permit exam.

The second is to obtain a 4-40 license and work as a full-time customer service representative for at least one year. The license is granted through a Florida State University of Insurance/Central Florida University Registered Customer Service Representative, which exempts students from participating in a 4-40 license state permit test.

Upon completion, students can take and pass the 4-40 to 2-20 conversion course offered by Florida Insurance University. This course is a 40-hour distance learning program that allows applicants to qualify for the state permit exam.

In the current economic climate, the insurance industry is one of the few regions where employment and income are not only stable but also growing. For those who have sales experience and good interpersonal skills, job opportunities are beneficial. The US government reported that employment of insurance sales agents is expected to grow in 2016. In May 2006, the median annual income of insurance sales agents was $43,470. The range of earnings reflects a maximum of 10% of revenue over $115,090. Benefits paid by companies typically include continuing education, group insurance plans, office space, car and transportation expenses, health insurance and retirement benefits.
