Despite being a computer instructor, Brian Wayne Maki believes that technology has its place and should not invade all aspects of our lives. In "An Innocent and Peaceful Life," he recalls the special moments of childhood and adulthood – from basketball to building a fortress and spending time with parents – none of which involves computer or digital life.
Maki emphasizes some kind of innocence that has been lost in the past two decades, which is consistent with his own loss of childhood, loss of father and technological intrusion. However, although many of Maki's poems are nostalgic, they have never really been sad. Many people are very hopeful, they focus on happy experiences, insightful moments and lessons.
This book alternates between non-fiction short stories and poetry. These stories recall childhood experiences and experiences as basketball players or referees, and the poems that make up most of the book focus on a variety of topics, including growth, nature, death, pets, and love.
An example of how Maki sees the world can be found in "Two Trees in The Meadow Grove," where he watches two trees that have been dependent on each other for years. Maki is also a person who believes we need to be the best. He showed his personal desires in the basketball story and dared to become an entrepreneur.
Poetry and stories are accompanied by photographs; many of them belong to nature, but my favorite is Maki himself, including sitting in his first office or playing basketball when he was a child; these photos add innocence, nostalgia and hope. Feeling, let the reader feel more personal contact with the author.
Finally, I am especially grateful to Maki for his insight and reminder of the current role of technology in our lives and how it is often separated, rather than bringing people together. In the title poem "Ordinary Life" of this book, he said:
We are now mainly separating anxiety
from
Sitting alone in the room, in the hall, on the grass or on the street
from
Use the device to sense and feel
Maki's style is easy to read, his theme is not complicated, but under them is a challenge that needs to appreciate and pay more attention to the world around us and the magic it has, and to appreciate the people in our lives and believe In our own ability. In today's stressful world, it can take a few hours to reflect on these things through the "Innocent and Peaceful Life" page.
