You have to be flexible in gymnastics for three reasons:
Flexibility to accelerate learning!
Most top-level training programs require you to meet the minimum gymnastic flexibility [and strength] requirements, as it speeds up the learning process when you are flexible enough to learn any skill and make the gymnast incorrectly perform poor work skills.
Flexibility can be improved!
Flexibility is certainly one of the physical attributes that can be improved by spending time working on it. In general, the more time you spend, the more flexible you are.
