Preparing for travel/sailboat planning
Before you start a long-distance trip or an offshore cruise, be sure to tell someone about your plan so they can schedule a search when you arrive at your destination. The best way to achieve this is to sign a sailing plan [sometimes called a travel plan or a floating plan] with the head of the sea. All vessels should take the following actions related to the Travel Plan:
- Before going out from
Complete the plan and provide the necessary details to assist in the initiation of search and rescue calls in an emergency. - Before going out from
Submit the plan with the person in charge who is familiar with the directive. - On the go from
Update the plan. - After the trip from
Deactivate the plan to avoid unfounded searches and rescues.
The travel/voyage plan is a voyage itinerary, including travel itinerary and basic details such as:
- Owner's name, address and phone number
- Vessel name and license number
- Whether the boat is a sail or a power...
