Massage therapy is the practice of manipulating soft tissues and muscles. The goal is to provide physical and psychological benefits to the recipient. Some of the most famous techniques are Swedish massage, shiatsu massage, reflexology, acupressure and more. Many of these technologies are now easily found in most parts of the world. They are also integrated into the massage chair.

The practice of massage is to apply direct pressure to certain parts of the body. If this is done correctly, it will bring relief to these areas. Most companies have no incentive to fund massage therapy research because there is no way to control these methods to make a profit. This may be the biggest obstacle to thorough research. Unfortunately, most clinical studies are driven by profit motives. These programs need to be protected by intellectual property or have no incentive to fund them.
