Andrew Carnegie was an American industrialist who accumulated huge fortune at the end of the 19th century and then wasted most of it. Many American cities still have Carnegie libraries donated by this philanthropist. When he died in 1919, he had donated millions of dollars. He has always believed that it is a shame to die from the rich.
Carnegie did not start getting rich. He came to the United States as a poor immigrant boy from Scotland. His family lives in poverty, first in Scotland and then in Pittsburgh. As a little boy, he had to drop out of school and work six days a week to help support his family.
Over time, he struggled to escape poverty and become a millionaire. In his later years, he wrote many papers and books. This includes his wealth gospel. In this article, he believes that a man is responsible for earning as much money as possible. Then he is responsible for taking care of his family and his family. In the end, he has the responsibility to give up all his wealth responsibly before his death, and that is exactly what he actually did.
In these different works, Carnegie wrote an article in 1898 entitled "The Advantages of Poverty." In this article, he repeats most of his wealth gospel, but specifically points out that according to his experience, a poor child has an advantage in that he must get rid of poverty. . A child born in poverty does not take it for granted, nor does he expect him to harvest anything. He learns the value of discipline and work. He learned how to build wealth because he must do so or be in arrears with poverty. For Carnegie, poverty is a great teacher.
He writes that although giving is to alleviate the most terrible pain and deprivation of the poorest, giving them too much is a kind of harm. He firmly believes that helping others to help themselves is more helpful and morally justified than helping them.
Carnegie's philosophy of wealth and poverty was known to the social Darwinists of the late 19th century. It is widely believed that wealthy men have evolved to do so, and those who are poor have evolved into such a state. However, Carnegie has more sympathy and understanding than many of the rich people of his time.
In fact, since he is very poor and very wealthy, he may already be fully equipped to spread the truth about wealth and poverty. Whether you agree with Carnegie's entire Gospel, there is a lot of wisdom in what he says. In many cases, poverty can be a good teacher.
You can find Carnegie's paper on poverty in the book's small book, which also includes his work on how to get rich and the best gift. The entire book is only 49 pages. It can be read in an hour, but it will indicate longer.
